April 2007 Edition

Howdy Folks.

What a great weekend!!! I can't thank Sunshine Kid enough for the great job she did in putting this match on, Yea Haw!! I happened to be on posse 2 when they were finishing up Sunday and I can say they went out with a flash. Those shooters were shooting so fast that it was almost too much for me in keeping their scores straight. Without a shotgun or rifle to shoot, just their pistols blazing, I can tell you that it didn't take any time at all in getting those last 2 stages down and done. I know the other posses had a great time on these stages too and wiped them out just as fast if not faster. What a great 2 stages to finish a great day! All the other stages for both days were excellent too. Sure made for some fun times and a lot of folks had to readjust their thinking caps too. For those of you who are planning on putting on monthly matches in the future, please let me know so I can let folks know and what to expect. If extra ammo is needed, etc. Thanks

The potluck went very well and everyone really enjoyed a lot of great food. I was really surprised when Yvette and Conejo Karen brought out a big beautiful birthday cake for me. It was so nice of you.. Thanks girls.

With the state match coming next month we are really having to push to get things done and ready.

Just a reminder too that there will be 6 stages each day of the state match so bring extra ammo and extras if you plan to do any side matches. There will be a work party on Saturday April 29th and Sunday the 30th. So please plan on coming out and helping spruce things up. Please bring extra rakes, hoes, and other working tools if you have them so there will be plenty to go around. If you are planning on helping out at the state match please be there early Wednesday morning so things can get going and you can be signed in to help. If you aren't there on time and are planning on camping you will be asked to park in the lower pasture with the other folks.
Don't miss a very important meeting about the future of 5 Dogs Creek on Saturday, May 19 at Noon. The meeting will be held at the range and the club will be providing pizza. This meeting is critical for all members to attend! We will be making decisions to determine how 5 Dogs Creek will move forward in the future.

The May 19 meeting is a follow-up to the club meeting in March. At that meeting, Almost Dangerous spoke very frankly about the need for more folks to jump in and help if the club is to continue at its current level.

Several ideas were discussed including the creation of a “range operations” position to support the Town Council. This individual would coordinate volunteers to help with specific chores and projects that need to be done monthly and long-term. This person would work with those who have adopted bays. It was also suggested a list of projects (both monthly and long-term) be created so that club members know how they can help.

No decisions have been made about the future of the club. That will happen on May 19. Please make your plans now to attend and do what you can to keep 5 Dogs Creek on the right trail.

Farewell to our pards Emma Pistol and Quick Justice

Longtime club members Emma Pistol and Quick Justice have relocated to Wyoming. While personal challenges have kept them away from the range in recent months, they have long been assets to 5 Dogs Creek. They adopted a bay, worked hard on the range, volunteered for events and…most of all…were an absolute blast to shoot with on a posse.

We will definitely miss them at the range, but they look forward to having cowboy friends visit them. Their new contact information is:
Emma Pistol and Quick Justice
21 Mule Shoe Rd.
Pinedale, WY 82941
(307) 367-2705

If anyone is interested in adopting their bay please let Almost Dangerous know.

I would like to take this opportunity to add a note from one of our finest overseas. Here is a note he sent expressing thanks for the contributions.

Thanks to everyone who brought the razors and body wash a few months ago for Andy Bozylinski's unit in Iraq. Andy is the son of The Headmaster, SASS #48548. The following is an excerpt from an e-mail he sent on April 3rd.

“The last package was very much appreciated. The PX runs out of Mach 3 razors pretty much as soon as they get them in. You really hooked us up with that and also the Axe body wash. … Tell all the gang that helped to accumulate and send all the goodies that we appreciate it from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you.” -- Andy

New Faces included this month a few fellows who are no stranger to the cowboy way. We are sure glad they decided to join us for this great weekend. Sure hope they decide to make it a regular occurrence. Following are a few photos of these fine fellows. Dapper Don with Hawkeye O'Riley, Cowboy Earl, Marshal Sturm, and Bad Shot Baxter. Welcome around our campfire!

Here are some photos to enjoy from this weekend.
